Biography
Dr. Ece Selva Küçükoğlu completed her undergraduate studies in English Language Teaching at Anadolu University and earned her master’s degree at Bilkent University with a Fulbright scholarship, focusing on the assessment of speaking tests and alternative assessment approaches in English as a Foreign Language teaching....
In 2016, she completed her PhD in English Language Teaching at Middle East Technical University (METU), with a particular focus on corpus linguistics and academic writing.
Since 1999, Dr. Küçükoğlu has served in various state and foundation institutions, beginning her career at Anadolu University. While teaching there, she undertook roles in different units, revising the learning outcomes of semester-level programs as a course coordinator, developing exams, and conducting meetings to ensure the smooth collaboration of instructors teaching at the relevant levels. She also actively participated in curriculum renewal project at the School of Foreign Languages at Anadolu University.
Since 2006, she has been working as a lecturer in the Department of Basic English at METU School of Foreign Languages. Between 2019 and 2023, she served as the department chair, during which she particularly focused on supporting faculty adaptation to distance and online teaching practices during the pandemic, as well as collaborating with relevant units to digitalize course materials and exams. Within curriculum work, she has contributed to initiatives exploring the transition to alternative systems using synchronous and asynchronous models to provide flexibility in course schedules and enhance efficiency.
She has worked on the restructuring of specific units within the department, notably the Professional Development Unit, the Self-Access Center, and the Testing Unit. During her work with the Professional Development Unit, she played an active role in revising in-service training programs and restructuring the faculty hiring process. Her work with the Testing Unit included revising the proficiency exam, redesigning the placement test for online and staged implementation, and organizing sharing sessions to facilitate the exchange of theoretical and practical knowledge between unit staff and instructors. Additionally, she contributed to the integration of a blind rating system that enabled digital evaluation during the restructuring of writing assessment procedures.
Dr. Küçükoğlu has also conducted sessions on teacher research and provided training and consultancy on the assessment of speaking tests at various universities. In addition, she contributes her expertise to the accreditation processes of English language education programs in higher education institutions.
Her research interests include continuous professional development (CPD), teacher education, corpus linguistics, assessment of speaking and writing skills, academic writing and reading instruction, and students with special educational needs. She has presented papers at national and international conferences and published book chapters and articles. Recently, she continues to engage in training and research focused on individuals with special learning needs.
